Watercolors Entered (6/24):
I entered several of my newest watercolors in three national exhibitions.  The shows will be in San Pedro, California, Wichita, Kansas and Jackson, Missippi.  Should I get in, the exhibits open in October.  I've gotten into the Mississippi exhibit twice before.  I've yet to get into the Kansas National.  This is the first time I've entered the National Watercolor Society in San Pedro, California.

My Brides Newest Quilts (6/22):
On my "Honey Do" list today was - hanging new curtain rods and taking photos of several of the newest quilts that Frani has finished.  While I was in Taos she started on new curtains for our bedroom.  We choose curtain material that would go well with the bear quilt Frani made for me.  I built a web page with her newest quilts.

I also created a web page with the watercolors I painted in Taos last week.  Later, I'll post images of the work by the other artists who were at the Sagebrush Inn.

State By State (6/20):
I just noticed, today, that my map counter now lists how many visits my web site (or blog) gets state by state as well as by individual countries. The program is called ClustrMaps and the counter in displayed in the upper right of this web page.

More Paintings From Taos:
Above and below, I've posted all eleven of my new watercolors that I painted last week while in Taos, New Mexico.  I'm happy with about half of them, so it was a very good week.

I'm Back From Taos (6/19):
I've been up in Taos all week painting watercolors, eating way too much and smoozing with old friends.  On the way back, I took a short cut through the Mora Valley, Las Vegas and Tucumcari.  I went to Tucumcari to meet with New Mexico art teachers to discuss our fall conference in Santa Fe this November.  I made the 520 mile round trip on one tank of gas.
I will post lots of photos from our watercolor workshop, in Taos, later on.  I completed eleven watercolors of which 4 or 5 are keepers.  I'm posting three of those here.  Both watercolors (on either side) are painted on full sheets of hand made paper which I coated with gesso first.  The painting of the rose below is on 140 lb Arches rough.  Matted and framed, the rose painting is only 18 x 24 inches.

Two Other Taos Paintings

I also painted a "Self Portrait", while in Taos, last week.  It's based on a photo I took of myself reflected in the windows of the Balloon Museum here in Albuquerque.  The other watercolor, is of a pueblo ladder with cast shadow - I almost threw that one away.  I was very disappointed with the way it started out - but, after a good nights sleep, I decided to finished it - and, it's not bad at all.

End of a Great Adventure (6/10):
Fantastic photo of the Shuttle Endeavor docked at the International Space Station - It is sad that we are retiring these marvelous machines.  I've been in love with the idea of space travel all my life.  Will I live long enough to see humans on Mars ?

Packing For Taos (6/9):
I packed my car for Taos early so I could work on the Art in the School Art Sale on Friday.  The car is full of gas and I picked up Two 3 liter jugs of Yago San Gria (of course).
The winds have shifted, making Arizona's smoke go elsewhere - so, we opened our doors and windows to the cool morning air - our AC didn't kick on till 4 pm - that's normal for early June - they say to expect more smoke later.
Got a nice Thank You note from the 11 fifth graders that attended my watercolor workshop a couple weeks back.

Thank You

WFWS Shipped Off (6/8):
We had a great crew on Monday helping take the WFWS exhibit down. We took the paintings out of the frames so we could sell the frames and plexi glass.  The matted paintings were put back into their sleeves and packaged for shippment back to the various societies. We sold 13 paintings from the show. I only have 25 frames left to sell.  All the airfloat boxes with the paintings were dropped off at the UPS or FedEx offices.  Only a few minor details to polish off a successful effort.  A big thanks to everyone for all the work you put in.
Tomorrow, I start packing my car for Taos.  Perhaps I'll paint some winners while I'm up there.  Friday, is the "Art in the School" Art Sale.  Saturday, I drive off to Taos.

Last Day WFWS Exhibit (6/5):
Today is the final day for the WFWS exhibition.  Actually the real work begings tonight.  We need to take the paintings down and put tags on the ones we want left in the frames.  Everything else gets taken out of the frames tomorrow.  Eleven paintings sold - which is good in this economy.  I still have 45 frames no one has ask to purchase.  They are the largest frames.
Yesterday, David Drummond did his demo on painting skies.  It was well attended and of course he did a great job.

Smoke In The Air (6/3):
Last night we turned the AC on for the first time.  Not because of the heat, but the skies in Albuquerque are filled with smoke from fires in eastern Arizona.  It was so thick that we could not see the Sandia.  The smell was getting to us.  Shutting the windows and turning the air on made it much better.  They say it will get even worse today.
As I get everything ready for my painting trip to Taos - I'm going to try painting a young Native-American dancer from photos I took at the Gathering of Nations, at the Pit, earlier this year.  I drew it out on a full sheet of gesso coated hand made paper.  Hopefully, I'll be able to allow the deckle edges of the paper to show.

Preparing For Taos (6/1):
To get a jump start on painting in Taos, I'm starting a few drawings before I pack the car.  I also stretched a dozen sheets of arches so I'd be ready for some serious painting.
