Progress (9/23):
I made a bit more progress on my watercolor of "Karen and Poncho" this morning.  I might be able to finish it tomorrow.  I also started another painting featuring Poncho.  This time he is with my friend Jason from Kansas.

School Sports (9/22):
Our triplet grandkids: Tim, Tess and Tiff are involved in sports back in Kansas. They are in the seventh grade now.  They turn 13 next week.  Our daughter-in-law posted photos of them on facebook.

Travis Bruce Black
Travis Bruce Black (9/20):
Last night, Travis Bruce Black (Bright Rain Gallery) did a presentationand demo at the NM Watercolor Society meeting.  He was very well received by the crowd.  It's great to see the development of an artist with so much courage and creativity.  He owns the Bright Rain Gallery in Old Town.  There will be an opening featuring his work on First Friday.  But that's the same evening that the NMWS fall show opens.  So, I'll visit his gallery earlier in the day to get a quick preview.

School Photos (9/18):
The triplets got there school photos taken.  The girls have great smiles.  Seventh grade in Middle School is a tought time and a fun time.  I hope things are going well for them.  I spent 27 years in Middle School not counting my three years back in the 1950's and I survived.

Karen & Pancho (9/17):
I'm starting on a full sheet portrait of Karen with Pancho.  Pancho lives in Kansas with Dr. Bill.  Karen lives in Corrales, New Mexico.  They both come to the annual watercolor workshop in Taos each June.  I'm painting on a full sheet of 140 lb Arches rough.  It tends to warp, so photos are a problem.  It will flatten out when I finish it.

New Rose Finished (9/16):
This morning I finished the newest watercolor.  I plan to float it inside a mat so the deckle edges show.

Not Finished Yet
Another Yellow Rose (9/9/11):
This moring, in the Friday Painters Group, I started a new yellow rose. This time I'm painting on a sheet of gesso coated hand made paper I bought in Taos.  I love the texture of this surface to paint watercolor on.

Rejected Again (9/7):
All three of my entries into the Kansas National were rejected.  Of course, that saves me the cost of shipping.  I also don't need to make a trip to Wichita.  I'm considering entering at least two of them into the Western Fed show.

Your Invitation (9/6):
Here is your invitation to the opening of the NMWS Fall Juried Exhibition. Ann Smith was our juror.  This will be another beautiful watercolor show in the Fine Arts Building on the New Mexico Fair Grounds.  I hope to see everyone there.  The exhibit continues till October 30th.

Finished My Yellow Rose (9/5):
It was so cool yesterday that we turned the air off.  Even put a blanket on the bed.  We left the air off today and went outside to deadhead the roses. With cooler nights, I hope for lots of color in the back yard soon.  Then I added a few finishing touches to my newest watercolor.  It only took a few minutes to add some warmth to the background.  Below are steps 1 - 8 before the finishing touches.

September Brushstrokes
September Brushstrokes (9/2):
Recently, I turned over the job of newsletter editor to Andrea Nichols. It's quite apparent by looking at the September issue that she is doing a great job. Included with this issue is the WFWS prospectus for NMWS members. Artists must enter through their local societies delegate.  I serve as delegate to WFWS for NMWS - So, I'll be receiving entries for the juried show in Nevada soon.  I'm placing links to the NMWS newsletter and the WFWS prospectus on each side of this blog post.

If you click on the small images of the
NMWS newsletter or the WFWS prospectus

New Watercolor Began:
Painting with our Friday group, this morning,  I began a new painting of a yellow rose.  I'll continue it tomorrow in the Saturday group.  Below are pics that show my start in four stages.  When matted and framed the painting will measure 29 x 22 inches.  I paint on 140 lb Arches rough, soaked and stretched around a sheet of gator board.  When finished, I cut the painting off and reuse the gator board.

48 Years Together (9/1):
Yesterday our 48th anniversary.  My bride went off shopping for new shoes.  My present is that I did not have to go shopping with her.  I hope she had fun shopping.  We each seem to do our own thing.  I play on my computer and paint - while, Frani creates her quilts and shops for shoes.

Where Are Our Tomatoes ?
We planted one small tomato plant back in April.  It has grown and grown into a very hugemongous plant.  There have been blossoms on it for over a month now - but, no hints of of even a tiny tomato.  Will we have home grown tomatoes by this fall ?
