Backyard Flowers (3/28): This morning, I put my new geraniums into their new pots. We are trying to spruce up the yard for summer. I took 13 bags of cuttings to the local convenience center (or dump). While I was potting the flowers, a hot air balloon floated over the house. I had to put Blossom inside - she goes crazy for balloons and kites. |

Balloon Painting (3/24): In my Saturday painting group, I got started on a new balloon painting. It was my time to bring treats - so Frani baked and I cleaned a mess of strawberries. Frani always makes me look good. |

Home Sweet Home (3/22): This morning, I cut my eleven rose bushes back. It should have been done ten days ago but we were away. I also bought new pots for my geraniums, now I just need to get the flowers and plant them. Blossom loves taking advantaged of the warm New Mexico sunshine. |

Back Home (3/21): We just got back from a trip to Kansas. So' I'm way behind in posting to my blog. While in Kansas, I got notice that I did not get into the watercolor show in Louisiana - so, I rolled over two of my rejected entries to another show. That show, which I've also never gotten into, is Watercolor USA in Springfield, Missouri. I consider these two of my best - so, I'll give it a shot. Watercolor USA Entries New Car:
It was an easy drive back, despite the rain and wind. We listened to the engaging biography, “Jack Kennedy: Elusive Hero,” by Chris Matthews. The strong winds cut my mpg to 39 for the whole trip. We put over 3000 miles on the new car for the overall trip. On the drive from Albuquerque to KC - we got 41.5 mpg. |
||||
Switched Paintings (3/5): Since my "November Rose" got into the juried show in Kansas City, I had to change my mind on what to enter in the NMWS Spring Show. I'm entering the painting I did of Tiffanie at Chaco Canyon. |
||||
Paintings Headed For Kansas (3/3): I received my notice today, that two of my watercolors were accepted into "Art at the Center" in Overland Park, Kansas. The show opens on April 6th and runs through June 10th. I'll take the framed paintings with me as we drive to Kansas in the middle of next week. I'll miss the opening because I need to be in Albuquerque for the Opening reception of MasterWorks of New Mexico. Kuan Wu (A Chinese-American sculptor) was the juror of selection for Overland Park http://www.kwanwusculpture.com/ When I lived in Kansas City I was in a few of Overland Park's earlier juried shows. The annual exhibitions were called "Art in the Woods" when they were held at Corporate Woods. |

Ducks on Ice (3/2): This morning, I made a bit of progress on my newest watercolor titled "Ducks on Ice". It does not read as ice so I may have to have the ducks swimming in water. The composition did not please me so I'm thinking about changing it to a square format. I'll have to change the title as well - perhaps, "Feeding Ducks". |

Playing With Texture |
Texture in Watercolor (3/01): Tuesday, I taught a watercolor workshop on texture at the Palo Duro Senior Center. I taught classes there several times before. It's an eager group of students every time. |

Betty Carr Workshop Registration |
New Mexico Watercolor Society: The NMWS website http://www.nmwatercolorsociety.org/ is now up to date. Our beautiful Web Mistress, Marcella, has moved to Chile. Yes, Chile - the country in South America occupying a long, narrow strip between the Andes mountains to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. But, she still updated the web site from her new home way down there. It is truly a small world. My NMWS Spring Entries: I decided which watercolors to enter into the NMWS Spring Member Show. It would be great if my portrait of Tom Stoner were selected by the juror. I'm serving as file manager for the entries - so, I'll sent the images to myself. When all the entries are in, then I send them off to our juror Betty Carr. She will be doing a four day workshop for us just before the exhibit opens. I may sign up for her workshop myself. These 2 - 3 workshops the watercolor society puts on, every year, are the best benefit of membership in NMWS. My Spring Entries
