Full Moon (5/23):
I
wanted to photograph the full moon raising over our mountain - but,
clouds got in the way - so, I got a few shots after the moon cleared
the clouds - perhaps I'll try again tomorrow.

New Web Pages (5/22):
I
created two new web pages, today, one about my poppies and the other
about my roses. It's been a while since I created a web page fom
scratch - I almost forgot how. I should have plenty of resources for my
watercolors this summer. Check out my roses at:

Nine Year Docent (5/20):
Every
three years, serving as a docent at the Albuquerque museum, we get
another chunk of turquoise to add to our docent badges. I received my
third turquoise - meaning I've been a docent for nine years now. My
service began the first year we moved to New Mexico. In the photo are
docents who began the same year receiving their third turquoise as
well. Three others from our "nine year class" were not present. Nine
years is not that long - other docents received turquoise for 12, 15,
18 and 24 years of service. Most importantly, 23 new docents
received their badges after the first year of training.

Balloons Over Our House

|
Sunrise, Poppies and Balloons (5/15):
I
awoke to a beautiful sunrise over our mountain. Also, there are more
poppies in my yard every day. It was very overcast this morning, so it
was quite a surprise when Blossom alerted me to hot air balloons over
our house.

My
poppies are going to be beautiful this year. I'll have resources for
more watercolors this summer. I check each morning to see if another
one has opened up.

Clouds (5/10):
They
keep saying that is going to rain. The sky has all the right signs -
but still no rain. I took several photos of the clouds over
Albuquerque. Perhaps I'll utilize the photos in future paintings.

New Watercolor of Birthday Roses:
I
started a new watercolor this morning using my bride's roses as a
resource. I used black, red and green matt acrylic for the background.
Then, I put a light wash of yellow and pink acrylic over the
roses. I'm trying some new techniques to see how the work.

Happy Birthday Frani (5/8):
My
beautiful bride had a birthday today. For her birthday we went to Mr.
Powdrell's Barbeque on 4th street. This was our first time having BBQ
in New Mexico. It was just OK - I guess we have been spoiled by Kansas
City BBQ. Mr. Powdrell's Barbeque's did not have burnt ends which would
have been our first choice. Of course, both of our sons remembered
their mother's birthday and sent flowers. I took photos of both
arrangements.

New Watercolor (5/3):
This morning, I'm starting a new painting from our visit
to "Gathering of Nations". I'm going to begin with a thin layer of
acrylic like the demo Steven Quiller used in his demo. There are lots
of experiments turning around in my head since seeing demos by Hyland,
Simpson and now Quiller. |

members at the Fine Arts Gallery at Expo New Mexico. He jurored the
NMWS Spring "members only" exhibition that opens this Friday with a
reception and awards ceremony from 7 to 9 pm. Tonight, the NMWS
signature members are having a potluck dinner with Quiller.

Photos of Museum Docents (5/1):
Each
year, I shoot photos of docent training and other events at the
Albuquerque museum. I'll put together a powerpoint slide show to play
at the Turquoise Luncheon on May 20th. That's the day docents are
recognized for service to the museum. This will be my ninth year as a
docent, so I'll get a third small chunk of turquoise to attach to my
docent badge.
