A Second "Alternative Presentation" (8/29):
After delivering my paintings to the Friday Painter's exhibit at the Unitarian Church this morning - I finished framing "Union Station" and then cropped and matted my "Yellow Cactus Blooms".

Another Way (8/28):
I'm sealing my first watercolor to present without plexiglass - I'll frame it even if the juror doesn't select it. The NMWS has been accepting watercolors called "Alternative Presentations". This will be first attempt at doing an "Alternative Presentation".

Growing Up Too Fast (8/27):
Our triplet grandkids are now in the 10th grade - They grow up way too fast - These photos show them now and on the first day of school years ago.

Tuesday Morning (8/26):
Tuesday morning sunrise in Albuquerque - the clouds mean more monsoon rains are on the way - there is a predicted high of 79 for today. I left early to miss the rain. I dropped off my three paintings at the St John's Gallery. My problem is now I have two exhibitions that need to be picked up in December when I'll be out of town. Perhaps I can find a really good friend that would pick up my 13 paintings for me from two different shows.

New Orleans (8/25):

Tomorrow morning I'm dropping off my New Orleans paintings at the Cathedral of St Johns Gallery for an exhibit. The three paintings are also going to be featured in the RAEA Newsletter (Retired Art Teachers). The editor thought they might spur a little interest in art teachers attending NAEA in New Orleans next March. I know that my beautiful bride and I will be there.

Entries Sent Off (8/24):
The entries for the NMWS Fall Exhibition are on the way to our juror - Lian Quan Zhen. There are 237 entries from 105 artists. I will send an e-mail to everyone who entered when I hear the results. Best of luck to every artist who entered.

Painting Every Friday (8/22):
On the way to paint with my Friday friends this morning - I dropped off my painting at FedEx. My watercolor for the Mississippi Grand National is well on it's way to Jackson by now. I made quite a bit of progress on my newest watercolor of cactus blossoms today. It rained most of the morning and our mountains (Sandia) were hidden in clouds by the time I got back home.

Monsoon Skys in New Mexico (8/20):
This morning, I awoke to another beautiful sky. I just had to grab my camera and go outside.

Even More Entries (8/18):
Here are the three watercolors I've decided to enter into the NMWS Fall Juried Show - Now as I expected - my White Water painting was not accepted into the NWS International Exhibition in San Pedro, CA - 823 artists entered and paintings from only 79 artists were accepted for display in the NWS Gallery. The Jury of Selection was - Katherine Chang Liu, John Salminen & Carole Barnes. Now, I can enter my rejected painting into the NMWS Fall Show.

Green Chili (8/16):
I picked up 24 green chili at Albertsons today - they roasted them - then I brought them home to peel. One dozen will go into my famous Chili Relleno Casserol http://www.taospaint.com/Rellenos.html - The other 12 we are saving to go onto our home made chili cheeseburgers. My fingers are still stinging - I need to be careful what I touch now.

More Entries (8/15):
I finished my watercolor, this morning, of Allison Krauss with her Fiddle. That gave me three music related portraits to enter into the Portrait Society juried exhibition at the New Mexico Art League. I'll wait on the juror's decision before I frame any of them.

From The Past (8/13):
Looking through my old blog posts - I came upon this photo of my beautiful bride and our grand daughter Tiffanie. Grandma and grand daughter sitting on a bed, a few years back, at the Sagebrush Inn in Taos. They are looking at photos of my watercolors.

NM State Fair (8/12):
The New Mexico State Fair is getting very selective - they rejected two of my entries - accepting only one. Actually that makes for a better exhibition if they are starting to get picky. I've heard lots of complaints that the quality of the show was not up to gallery standards. The juror from the actual framed paintings - I need to pick up the two that were not selected on Saturday.

Beautiful Day (8/11):
Today we spent a delightful morning in "Old Town" - my bride was dropping off another baby quilt, to sell, at the "Blue Portal". Then we shopped around the area and finally topped off the by day eating an enjoyable lunch at the Church Street Cafe. We seem to have a nice rain almost everyday - My roses just love it - I took these photos in our back yard this morning. We got our flagstone back in place - next comes some good dirt so we can plant ground cover between the stones. The "Blue Portal" is a shop in historic Old Town where Assistance League members sell handcrafted items made by seniors. The entire purchase price is returned to the crafter.

Another Beautiful Day (8/10):
Another beautiful day to be in New Mexico. The sun rises over our own mountain. I only have to walk out the back door to shoot a photo of another sunrise.

Union Station Finished (8/9):
This morning, I finished my watercolor of "Union Station". I decided to crop and mat it in a square format. I'm doing the music theme paintings for a show at the New Mexico Art League. The gentelmen in the painting are part of "Alison Krauss and Union Station". On the guitar is Daniel John "Dan" Tyminski, he is best known for his updated version of the song "Man of Constant Sorrow," which was featured in the movie O Brother, Where Art Thou? "Dan" Tyminski was the singing voice for George Clooney in that movie. On Bass, is Barry Turner Bales from Kingsport, Tennessee. Barry is the long time bass player and harmony vocalist for Alison Krauss and Union Station. He has been in the band for around 25 years.

New Mexico Sunrise (8/8):
Every morning the sun peeks over our mountain - this view shows the silhouette of our yucca in bloom. A few minutes later, while I was drinking this morning's coffee, hot air balloons floated over our house - I love waking up in New Mexico.

Busy Framing Paintings (8/6):
Yesterday I kept busy framing my watercolors for several upcoming shows. Actually, I just steal mats and frames from other paintings. Now - I have ten ready for the Cancer Society exhibit, three for the St. John's Gallery and two for the Friday Painters show. For upcoming juried shows - I'll just have to wait on the jurors decisions before I frame any of those.
I'm going to enter a juried show at the NM Art League which has Portraits and Figures in Music as a theme. I wanted to enter my watercolors from the French Quarter in New Orleans but they were done in 2009. The
NM Art League limits entries to those completed in the past two years. So, I decided to exhibit my New Orleans paintings at the Cathedral of St Johns Gallery instead.

...

Kansas Entries (8/5):
I'm going to try entering the Kansas Watercolor Societies National Exhibition. I've never been accepted into a KWS exhibit - I'll just have to keep trying.

NM Cancer Society (8/4):
I recently received an invitation to exhibit at the New Mexico Cancer Society. The theme is Red or Green, so I tried to select ten watercolors which meet that criteria. The Opening is Sunday, September 14th. Mostly, I selected work that was already framed and not done recently. I'm holding the newer watercolors for juried shows because most require work completed in the past two years.

Non-Members May Enter The NMWS Fall "Open" Exhibition (8/3):

State Fair Entries (8/2):
Yesterday, I entered three paintings into the New Mexico State Fair - they need to be left for judging. Entry rules require the paintings should be recent and these were all already framed so my choices were easy.

More Rain in Albuquerque (8/1):
Sometimes it's just a threat of rain or maybe only a promise - but of late, it actually rained amost daily - which is great. Of course, all the thunder at night sets off Blossom's barking which wakes us up.
Also, I boxed up my watercolor to ship off to Mississippi. I'll need to wait till August 22nd to ship it because they want it to only arrive between certain dates.
