NM Cancer Center Winter Show (11/27):
Below are the ten watercolors I'm putting into the New Mexico Cancer Center's Winter Exhibition. If any sell it's for a good cause. Five of them were in an earlier show at the Cancer Center. The exhibit opens on December 14th and runs through March 7th.

Artists Daily Gallery (11/26):
I've started posting more of my watercolors on http://www.artistdaily.com - it's a gallery where I can get some feedback about my paintings.

Blossom Wakes Up (11/22):

The early morning sun wakes Blossom up. She loves sleeping in her comfy bean bag bed.

Starting A Sketchbook (11/21):
I seldom do a sketchbook - but, I decided that I needed something portable while we travel. So, I've started a sketchbook and I'm putting together the minimun number of supplies I'll need to carry.

Collograph Lesson Plan (11/19):

My basic lesson plan for Collograph Printing can be used with a wide variety of subjects. With sixth grade I used flowers - just like I used with the education students at UNM. With eight grade I often used figures, perhaps from the olympics, or even musicans holding their instruments. With teachers in Las Cruces I used astronaunts floating in space for our subjects. Click on the links below to download pdf flies of my lesson plan.

NM Art Teachers in Las Cruces (11/18):
Last weekend, I attended a very successful NMAEA (art teachers) conference in Las Cruces. Of the many highlights were two printmaking workshops conducted by Juane Quick To See Smith and Neal Ambrose Smith. There were loads of great activities shared my teachers. My own Collograph workshop in Las Cruces was successful – Space Travel was the subject matter for the prints we created to fit this years Back to the Future theme.

Comet Landing  (11/13):
Ten years of work pays off with success at 3:49AM MT, this morning, the first images to confirm that Philae is safely on the surface of the comet. That white thing on the foreground is one of the lander's feet. I find it fasinating theat the Rosetta spacecraft's Philae lander successfully touched down on a speeding comet today after a 10-year journey through the solar system. The European Space Agency's Rosetta already has gone where no other spacecraft has ever attempted to go before, becoming the first to rendezvous with a comet -- in this case one that can move at more than 80,000 miles per hour.
Stephan Ulamec, the Philae Lander Manager, said at a news briefing: "The not so good news is that the anchoring harpoons did not file so the lander is not anchored to the surface." The ESA said its team is exploring its options for refiring Philae's harpoon rockets, which allow it to remain anchored to the low-gravity comet. "What we know is that we touched down," Ulamec said. "We had a very clear signal there and we also received data from the lander." ESA officials speculated that it was possible Philae landed in a soft sandbox-like area. However, the agency said it was not immediately clear what allowed the lander to remain on the comet.
Some of the data also indicates the lander may have lifted off again and bounced, meaning Philae may have landed twice today on the comet.

Kansas Watercolor Society (11/11):

Besides, this being the first time my work has been accepted into the KWS National - it makes it extra special that the juror was Thomas W. Schaller. I admire his work and especially his exquisite taste. The exhibition takes place in Wichita, Kansas - opening on November 21st and running until January 4, 2015.

Teaching Last Week (11/10):
Thanks to Nancy Brady I got to play at teaching last Tuesday at UNM. I did not post earlier because my website was down. We had two classes of Ed students on Tuesday creating Collagraph Plates - Then on Thursday we printed in Color. Nancy Brady's classes are a lot of fun. Thank you, Nancy, for inviting me to share the world of Collograph Printing with your wonderful students. We had a fun time both days. Nancy even took me to lunch - Thanks Nancy.

Website & Blog Are Finally Back (11/9):
Finally, I have my website and Blog back in operation. My hosting company switched my site over to a new server. Now I'm in the process of putting my old files back up there. This will take some time - luckily I'm a patient person. The first thing I want to post are the three paintings I've decided to enter into WFWS, the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies, witch will be in Lubbock, Texas in 2015.

A Father's Love:
The watercolor in the upper right is a portrait of one of my old students, Nate, holding his daughter Viviana. Nate and his bride Maggie were both students of mine, in Middle School, about 13 years ago. They proudly post photos of their beautiful daughter on Facebook. They gave me permission to paint from one of those photos. I finished the painting a few days ago and have entered it WFWS. The painting is 21 by 17 inches - it is painted on 300 lb Arches Rough.

Found Something From 1989:
I'm not very organized - When I'm looking for something I've misplaced I find seven other things - Today I'm looking for a chunk of the Berlin Wall my cousin gave me back in 1989. Ceremonies today mark 25 years since the Berlin Wall fell. I finally found it. But, my big job today is to change out the screens for glass in the storm doors. Yes, storm doors in Albuquerque are unusual I know - but it's great in the summer to have air moving through the house. By Saturday, it should get down near freezing so it's time to change out to glass doors. It's also a great time to use the hot tub. We have been in it three nights in a row now - cool nights and hot water go well together. We love the winters in New Mexico.
