Fifty-Three Years Together 8/31:
Frani and I were married 53 years ago as of today. I met my beautiful bride, our senior year, in High School.
It's great to be married to your best friend and such a wonderful
traveling companion. Frani shot that pic of me when we were in New
Orleans. I took the photo of her in Colorado Springs. The fireworks are
from the Isotopes baseball game we attended last Sunday here in
Albuquerque.

Family Whitewater 8/18:
I'm
starting a new watercolor today - this time it's our family raft trip
in Colorado - only our son Buddy and our grand daughter Tess can be
seen in the raft. Because the raft is tipped up, everyone else is
hidden. This one will take a lot of liquid mask to save the
whites.Kansas Goes OnlineKansas Goes OnlineKansas Goes Online

PUEBLO REVOLT BY VIRGIL ORTIZ: 2016
ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE
Albuquerque Museum until Jun 30, 2017
Once a year, the
atrium of the Albuquerque Museum transforms into a working laboratory
for artists to create installations and interact with the public. This
July, famed artist Virgil Ortiz will bring a futuristic world with deep
roots in New Mexico’s past. For the last 15 years, Ortiz, of Cochiti
Pueblo, has focused on the Pueblo Revolt of 1680. “It’s the first
American Revolution —and it’s not told in classrooms,” he says. “I felt
it was important to tell that story because no one else is.” But he
does it in a way that he feels young people will relate to by
envisioning a futuristic revolt set in 2180. His characters are a mix
of actual historical figures, such as "Po Pay", the leader of the 1680
revolt, and new characters, including Tahu, leader of the blind
archers, and the Translator, who leads the army of the spirit world.

Iris Finished (8/13):
A few ink lines for details - then I borrowed a white watercolor pencil
to scribble in the background finished my Iris. Now I can move on to
some old subjects - like street musicians from New Orleans. I was only
painting flowers because they are easier and much more forgiving than
people.

Family Fun:
Here's one photo where you can see every person in the raft. My bride
is the one wearing the flowered shirt. She had a blast all the way down
the river - you could tell by the hugh smile on her face. I'm the one
with the sour look on my face - but, I was enjoying every minute of the
trip. Our grand daughters have cameras on their helmets to record the
whole adventure.

Whitewater Fun in Colorado 8/1:
Last
month, we joined our two grand daughters (Tess and Tiff), our youngest
son (Buddy) and his wife (Shari) for a delightful week in Colorado. The
most exciting part of our trip was whitewater rafting on the Arkansas
river through the Royal Gorge.
