Morning To Paint 9/16:
Look
what landed behind our house this morning before I left for painting.
This morning, I finished my portrait of "Daryl" this morning and took
both paintings to critique - I was advised to enter both in juried
shows - perhaps in next springs exhibits.

Native Art Always Changes 9/14:
Pat
Pruitt (Laguna Pueblo), 2017 Best of Show winner at Santa Fe Indian
Market, with his winning piece. "Sentinel v1.0" was entered into the
sculpture classification; it is made of zirconium and titanium. Pat is
moving beyond tradition in his work while holding on to his native
culture. But, that's the way Native-American art has always done -
adaption of new materials and moving forward with change. Currently the
Albuquerque Museum docents are raising funds to by a necklace created
by Pat Pruitt (photo shown).

Trip To Santa Fe 9/13:
Karin
Cook organized a delightful outing to Santa Fe. This morning ten artist
friends took the RailRunner up to our state capitol. We toured the
Gerald Petters Gallery, then took in a leisurely lunch at the Shed
before going to the New Mexico Museum of Art. Everyone was anxious to
view the drawing exhibit titled "Lines of Thought" from the British
Museum. Traveling by train each way gave us time to get to know each
other better. Thank you Karin for arranging this great trip.

Obama on ending DACA 9/5:
"To
target these young people is wrong – because they have done nothing
wrong. It is self-defeating – because they want to start new
businesses, staff our labs, serve in our military, and otherwise
contribute to the country we love. And it is cruel. What if our kid's
science teacher, or our friendly neighbor turns out to be a Dreamer?
Where are we supposed to send her? To a country she doesn't know or
remember, with a language she may not even speak?"
I admire
our last president so much that I have a watercolor portrait of him on
our living room wall. I'm quite sure many of my students, over the
years, were brought across the border by their parents. We want each of
them treated like we would want our own children treated.
