August 31 - Happy Anniversity: Fifty-Five wonderful years together. Fifty-Five Wonderful Years Together ... |
August 27 - Baseball: Fifty- Last night we enjoyed a night at an Isotopes baseball game. Baseball, cold beer, foot long hot dogs, ribbon fries with cheese and green chili plus fireworks - what could be better. |
August 26 - Balloon Landing: This morning a hot air balloon landed behind our house. I never get tired of this sight. I'm so glad we found this place to build our house. |
August 25 - Mural Dedication: Yesterday, I attended a celebration of the murals that wrap around the Albuquerque Convention Center. Began in 2001 this project is a tribute to the many young artists who have worked hard to complete this project. Art is a major part of Albuquerque - and it will get even stronger with a mayor who holds a degree in Art History. |

August 23 - Gum Removed: With the "Drawing Gum" removed - Now, I'm ready to do some serious painting. |
August 22 - Starting on My Watercolor: I'm using a good amount of Pebo Drawing Gum to protect areas of my painting before I start to paint. If this image works out I expect it to be a very successful painting. |
August 21 - Art in the School: The Art in the School Board members met at Mary's home this morning. We had a lively discussion about the progress in training volunteers to deliver the AIS program in the schools. Not all of the board members are shown in the photo I took. AIS wants to give special thanks to the Sandia Heights Artists for adopting AIS to benefit from their 15th annual studio tour. |
August 20 - New Watercolor: Indian Market did inspire a new watercolor. I did ask permission before I shot these photos of this beautiful Native-Artist and he three month old baby. Hopefully it will become a successful watercolor. |
August 19 - Santa Fe Indian Market: We spent a delightful day in Santa Fe exploring this years Indian Market. We admired all the beautiful creations that are way out of our price range. In one shop, I tried in vain to convince my bride to buy a beatiful shawl - with no luck. The annual Indian Market is something everyone should experience. I only got to see one after I retired. |

August 16 - More Music: This morning, I started a new watercolor of a musician. This young lady was playing on the streets of Santa Fe. My sources for subject are closer to home of late. I decided to leave out the pattern on her pants - they distract from the center of interest which is her face and the fingers on her violen. |

August 10 - Good Morning Albuquerque: I love mornings in New Mexico. |
August 9 - Mornings in Albuquerque: I had my first cup of coffee outside just before the sun came up. Later, I prepared a wholesome breakfast of French Toast with fresh strawberries. Of course I had to have another mug of Dunkin French-Vanilla Coffee. |
August 8 - My Entries: I decided to enter three music themed watercolors into this Falls NMWS Exhibition. |
August 7 - NMWS Planning: Thank You Peter Rios for conducting the NMWS Board in another Strategic Planning Session. My bride and I were happy to host the session at our house. Of course, there is way to much Cheese Cake left but I'll take good care of that. Now, I can spend the evening watching the election returns and eating cheesecake. |
August 6 - Theme is New Mexico: Entering another juried show - this one in Los Lunas, NM - I had to find subjects that fit the specific theme. The church is in Taos, the white water was in the Rio Grande just South of Taos and the Road Runner was in our back yard. |

August 5 - Retired Art Teachers: NAEA in Boston I hope all retired art teachers are planning to attend the 2018 NAEA National Convention in Boston, MA (March 14-16). Check the NAEA website closely https://www.arteducators.org and register as early as possible. Registering early is important so you can sign up for workshops and tours of your choice. You don't want to miss any of the great opportunities at NAEA in Boston – so sign up early. Retired Art Educators are an important part of NAEA and many of us continue to attend NAEA Conventions year after year. Be sure to plan ahead - after Boston, Minneapolis in 2020, Chicago in 2021 and then back to New York, City in 2022. 2018 RAEA Silent Auction The Retired Art Educators hold a silent auction at each NAEA Convention. The money raised allows RAEA to fund awards for the "Outstanding NAEA Student Chapter" and for the "National Emeritus Art Educator". Any NAEA member may donate items for the auction. Please consider donating an item of your original art for the auction in Boston. The RAEA Silent Auction will be held during the Artisan's Gallery on Thursday, March 14th, 7 to 9 pm. A BIG Thank You to Anne Becker for stepping up to handle the Silent Auction in Boston. Below are links to information and especially the auction bid form. ||||
August 1 - Finished My New Watercolor: I'm not sure about the title - either: "Texting Home from SantaFe" or just "Text Home" for short. I believe that I did a painting of this same gentleman several years ago but I can't find the image. Tomorrow I'll get back to painting the iris that I started earlier. |
