July 31 - Finished My New Watercolor: I'm not sure about the title - either: "Texting Home from SantaFe" or just "Text Home" for short. I believe that I did a painting of this same gentleman several years ago but I can't find the image. Tomorrow I'll get back to painting the iris that I started earlier. |
July 29 - Full Moon: Due to the evening storms I've been unable to shoot photos of the moon rising over our mountain. But, this morning, there were clear skies so I got a shot of the full moon. |
July 28 - Working Classroom: This afternoon - I attended a celebration of 30 years of murals in Albuquerque. Student artists from "Working Classroom" recently finished the murals on Southwest Organizing Project offices. I'm proud to be part of the Albuquerque Arts Board that helps make these effort possible. My second stop this afternoon was at the "Working Classroom" headquarters with more fantastic murals. Albuquerque should be very proud of these energetic and creative young people. |
July 27 - Progress & Tolerance: This morning, I made some progress on my newest watercolor - "Texting Home". I think it's going to turn out OK. As for everything else, I'm not so sure about that. I was also confronted with the concept of un-friending Facebook friends who I strongly disagree with. Others have taken this approach - but, I don't think it's the correct approach. As many of my friends already know have strong beliefs. Yes, I have a few friends and relatives who I differ with greatly but I don't unfriend them nor do I seldom confront their beliefs. I'm fairly liberal, an atheist with a moral upbringing - leaning toward socialist tendencies. I strongly believe that everyone should be provided an college education, universal health care, and a decent wage. I was raised both Democrat and Union. As I've stated before, in high school they tried to teach me to be "tolerant" and I argued against that - saying instead that we need to love each other. As I get older and the world changes, I am more and more seeing the need for tolerance. So, I've learned to put up with others who think differently. I've learned to ignore those who try to force their twisted ideas down my throat - just smile and keep moving forward even if the progress seems way to slow. |

July 26 - My Entries: I decided which of my watercolors to enter in the State Fair and into the Kansas National Exhibition. I'll wait a few days before making a decision about what to enter into the NMWS Fall Exhibition. |
July 24 - Art in the School: Yesterday, Several members of the Art in the School Board attended a celebration of the upcoming Sandia Heights Artists tour coming in September. We want to thank them for adopting AIS in their tour this year. THANK YOU — That's Me with Patricia Williams, Barbara Lohbeck and Lezlie Schreiber. They even sang Happy Birthday to me - turning 75 ain't too bad with these ladies to hold on to. |

July 21 - "Texting Home": I'm going to try doing a watercolor "Texting Home" from our recent visit to the International Folk Art Market in Santa Fe - I believe I painted this same gentleman several years ago. Question ? Do I go light or dark in the background ? |
July 20 - Starting On My Iris Paintings: This morning, I got started on my two Iris paintings. I'm trying a new liquid mask that appears to let me indicate greater detail. |
July 19 - New Watercolors: I'm finally getting back to painting. This time I'm painting flowers - Two watercolors of Iris, or Flags as we use to call them. |
July 18 - Watercolor for Los Lunas: I'm ready to deliver my painting to Los Lunas next week. The NMWS Signature members are having a special show at the museum in Los Lunas. I took the photo of our sunrise showing how our plant is growing a second stock. |
July 17 - Walking Stick: When we in Santa Fe, I found a walking stick to take a bit of pressue off my bum knee. Then I connected a cord to the walking stick so I could hang it on my shoulder while I'm using my camera. |
July 16 - Fresco Start: I went downtown this morning to see the location of the new fresco - right now it's just scaffolding and plaster - I'll have to check back later to catch some of the student artists in action. |
Folk Art - Santa Fe: Yesterday, my bride and I went up to Santa Fe to check out the International Folk Art Festival. My bride checked out the jewelry and flowers - I was looking for interesting faces to paint. |
July 15 - Supporting Fresco: Yesterday I attended a reception at the home of Ambassador Ed Romero's home to promote the Sky Bridge Fresco now in progress at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Fresco is not a lost art - it is blooming in Albuquerque with artist Frederico Vigil and the students learning this ancient craft under his tutelage. With our new major, Tim Keller's, backing Albuquerque is sure to become known as the home of Frescos - why not since our mayor has a degree in Art History. |
July 14 - New Camera: Happy Birthday to me ten days early. My bride got me a new camera Nikon Cool pix 900. Now, I have a new toy to play with. it has a built in 2000 mm optical zoom lens. The first photos were of Blossom - of course. |
Sunrise: This mornings sunrise - with my new camera |
July 13 - RFK Finished: Hopefully my new painting will be a proper tribute to Robert Kennedy - he is the reason I got involved in politics - that was after his speech at Allen Field House in Lawrence, Kansas in 1968. Of course I can never enter this painting into any juried exhibit because I'm working from someone else's image - and since I don't have Shepard Fairey's lawyers to fight in court - So, I'll just paint. It took me two weeks to get around to finishing the portrait - I need to get off my butt and paint more. RFK Quote: "Some men see things as they are, and ask why. I dream of things that never were, and ask why not." ...

July 11 - Railrunner: Wednesday, old folks ride the Railrunner free - So, we road the rails to Santa Fe. We walked downtown, did some shopping and had lunch before taking the train home. I did find a street musician to photograph - plus I bought a cane/walking stick to take some pressure off my bumb knee. |
July 9 - Sunrise: I just had to shoot photos of this mornings sunrise. |
July 8 - Balloons: Hot Air Balloons over our house this morning - What a wonderful place to live - Albuquerque. |
July 6 - Roadrunner: I took a break from typing a letter to check the mail and found the neighborhood Roadrunner in our tree. She must be trying to avoid the heat – I usually see them on the ground or walking our walls. She let me take about 30 shots with my cell phone. |
July 4 - New Mural: I missed going to the mural dedication Monday morning because of my bum Knees - But, if you are traveling along Washington Street in the Nob Hill neighborhood of Albuquerque will see something new and different as you pass by a certain local business – a 120-foot-long mural depicting the immigrant journey to America. The mural entitled “Making Our Way,” a result of a public-private partnership between Kei & Molly Textiles LLC and the city's public art program, was officially unveiled with a ribbon-cutting on Monday. This new mural tells the proud story of immigration so much better than any words. Please check it out. I'm proud to be a new member of Abq Arts Board which helped this and many other art projects around our neighborhoods. |
July 3 - Great Turnout: Sorry I missed the Rally - On the way I picked up a nail and had to get a new tire. As a reply to my Facebook friend who sees the issue much differently that I do - I wrote: "Many tried to come legally requesting amnesty at the port of entries but were turned back by border patrol - so they crossed the river - we should welcome requests for amnesty and let the courts hear their pleas - we were a caring society with a big heart. Both my bride and I are third generation citizens with grandparents from Poland, Croatia, Scotland and Ireland - they got here the best way they could at the time legal or not. What little Cherokee blood I have does not seem to matter since that part of my ancestry was forced to relocate to Indian territory in Oklahoma. We need to learn from our sad history - every new group is hated and treated badly - but, they built this country into what it is today - we will become better after welcoming new blood into the mix." |
July 2 - Shipping Paintings: I framed my "Cadiz Guitar" to ship off to Watercolor Now in Popular Bluff, MO - I'm also shipping my "Uncovering the Past" off to San Diego. |
July 1 - June's Full Moon: The moon put on a great show at sunset a few nights back as it rose over our mountain. These photos were shot using my little Nikon, hand held, from our back yard in Albuquerque. |
Protest For Families on June 30: Yesterday, I was so proud of Albuquerque, our city joined hundreds of other cities across the country to demand action. I'm Sorry that I missed the Rally/Protest in downtown Albuquerque - this morning I was detained getting a new tire due to a nail. But, there will be many more protests as long as the families are separated and as long as the unnecessary deportations continue. |
