March 17 - MasterWorks:
I
dropped my painting "Street Sax" off at MasterWorks. I also took in
four minitures (Torn Mountains) to be judged. MasterWorks is the best
exhibition in New Mexico. Below is a photo of the NMWS crew checking in
our paintings - such a good looking bunch.

March 16 - Progress On Two New Watercolors:
Painting
with my "Friday Painter Friends" - I made a bit of progress on my
newest watercolors. The "Royal Street Trio" is from our last trip to
New Orleans. The guitar player is "Oscar Butler" - a local
song writer from right here in Albuquerque. His singing voice has a
very mellow tone not unlike James Taylor. I'll try making more progress
tomorrow when I paint with my "Saturday Morning Friends" right after I
drop off my painting for the "MasterWorks of New Mexico Exhibit".

March 12 - Local Music:
I'm
considering doing a watercolor of Albuquerque's own Oscar Butler - I
took this photo at the Arts & Crafts Festival on Friday. Oscar is
widely praised for his smooth as silk vocals and pianistic
fingerpicking guitar style. He is favorite at festivals and sought
after for private and public events.

March 11 - Getting Prepared:
Testing
out my materials for my "Collograph Workshop" that I'm doing at NAEA in
Seattle. Strange that I'm spending many, many hours preparing for a
workshop that will be over in less than two hours - but, that's what
mose teachers know way too well.

March 9 - Painting Looser:
Got
a good start, this morning, on my "Royal Street Trio" - I'm trying to
loosen up a bit. My watercolors need to start looking like they are
painterly creations - rather than just a copy of a photograph.

March 6th - Another Rejection
Another Acceptance:
My
painting "Clarinet-NOLA" was not invited into the NWS in California.
So, I rolled it over and entered it into Watercolor USA in Springfield,
Missouri. But, the same day - I found out that my watercolor "Walking
and Talking" was accepted into the Art at the Center International
exhibition in Overland Park, Kansas.
I boxed up two
more paintings to ship via FedEx - One box is headed to Overland Park,
KS for the Art at the Center's National Juried Exhibition - April 6 -
June 3, 2018 - this is the 9th painting I've shipped in this box - it's
holding up fairly well.

March 5 - Collograph Workshop:
I'm in the process of preparing materials for a Collograph
Workshop I'm doing at NAEA in Seattle later this month. My lesson is 20
years old - but, good ideas never go out of style. The cover page to my
lesson plan shows prints by two of my students. Pithasamaie Tonsavanh
(Savanh Sam) is all grown up now and has a 14 year old son. |

March 4 - New Cards:
I
have new business cards coming in a few days. I had to reorder them
because of a spelling error in my name. Dumb "Me" to miss spell my own
name - perhaps I can make a collage out of the 500 other cards or just
throw them away. As the kids say "My Bad".

This

her Travel Journals. Delightful 5 x 7 inch little watercolors
documenting her travels around the world.

March 1- When Will I Learn ?
Every
trip to New Orleans, my bride seems to find something new to bring
home. When will I ever learn ? I do have to admit that the light
fixture hads a perfect touch to our home. That's not me on the very
tall ladder - we hired Billy to hang our new light.
