July 29 - Door to Door Politics: Yesterday afternoon - Ane Romero (on our ring door bell camera) She is campaigning for votes in her run for 4th district city council seat. The election is in November. Face to face - door to door is the best way to get elected. We first met our current governor this way years ago when she was running for county commissioner. After I posted on Facebook, She responded - "There is such a thing as the joy of doorknocking! I love this! Thank you, Woody Duncan, for sharing and posting. It was a pleasure meeting you yesterday." |
July 28 - New Flower: |
July 26 - New Watercolor Started: This morning, I started a painting of white hollyhocks behind the church were we paint each Friday. The next step was to peal off the drawing gum to expose the whites - lots more painting to do yet. |
July 23 - Happy Birthday: For my birthday - my bride took me to see "Rocketman" and then to Olive Garden for dinner. It was a wonderful day. The movie is fantastic. Rocketman is no run-of-the-mill rocker biopic. While many movies about innovative and ambitious artists play things off-puttingly safe, that's not the case with Dexter Fletcher's Elton John film. Rocketman is not afraid to be bold like its artists, and just like their music, the final result bursts with creativity and life. |
July 22 - Love Is Forever: Love Is Forever, especially when your bride can bake a fantastic Apple Pie. |
July 20 - Old Church Exhibition: I decided which 3 watercolors to enter into the Old Church exhibition in Corrales - I just can't yet manage the entry process through juriedartservices - I'm entering 28 x 22 frames because most of my paintings are too large for the show. |
July 17 - Binge Watching Over: I finished watching all four seasons of Outlander - I won't say much more than it ended on a good note - there is more to come: It's been confirmed that both season five and six will have 12 episodes each and are set to air on a weekly basis – Starz in the US and Amazon Prime Video in the UK. Now I can quit watching and get busy framing my watercolors for the show in August. |
July 16 - Portrait Delivered: The portrait that I shipped to our cruise buddy Doris in Canada arrived safely. Doris posted photos on her Facebook page this morning. Thank you Doris for the wonderful friendship we were able to develop on our cruise - My bride (Frani) and I hope we all can connect again someday. Say Hi to Doug from us here in New Mexico. If you see Aaron and Lynn tell them hello. Journeys are wonderful but it's the friends you meet along the way that you remember most. |
July 15 - Roadrunner: Our neightbohood Roadrunner posed for 124 photos today - in our backyard - Here are a few of the pics. |
July 14 - Balloons Over Our House: This Sunday Morning - I'm sleeping later each morning - watching too much Dogger Baseball & Outlander. This morning I got up just in time to catch a few hot air balloons with my camera. Sunday morning I fix breakfast and admire the few roses that remain through the heat of summer. |
July 12 - Art in the School Party: Art in the School held a final party at our home tonight to celebrate the disolving of our organization. My bride Frani was a fantastic host. Thanks to everyone for all your years of support. Now that APS is hiring more art teachers it's our job to see that the comittment continues. |
ALMA - Open House: I stopped by the ALMA Open House - Ever wonder who does the wonderful tile murals - like at around the city convention center. The group is called ALMA. Today I attended thier open house / fund raiser - I took a few photos to post here. |
July 11 - Blossom: A box was delivered today for Blossom. She orders her food on line direct from Chewy. She likes the fast and efficient service from https://www.chewy.com |
July 10 - Outlander Season 3 & 4: Outlander - Season 3 & 4 - now I can binge-watch even more. I just held down the blue button and spoke "Outlander" into my remote control and Outlander came up on "Stars On-Demand". Now I can waste more thime watching endless hours (26 more episods) of this series. Of course, I assume, Claire will be 20 years older when she goes back to join Jamie again - at least I'll find out. Time travel is inclined to have it's paradoxes. |
July 9 - Binge-Watching: I've spent way too much time lately binge-watching Outlander (Season 1 & 2 ) on Netflix. Last night I stayed up till midnight finishing season 2. Outlander is a fantasy-drama which originally aired on Starz. It follows a World War 2 nurse who is transported back to Scotland in 1743 and has to quickly adapt to her new change in circumstance. I was first intrigued by the time travel – but, then got caught up in the story line. It’s full of violence, sex, gore and a heavy dose of Scottish History. It’s tells the story of, Claire Randall, a married World War II nurse who in 1945 finds herself transported back to 1743 Scotland, where she encounters the dashing Highland warrior Jamie Fraser and becomes embroiled in the Jacobite uprisings. Check it out on Netflix - Season 3 and 4 may show up on Nexflix one day. |
July 7 - World Cup & Baseball: The day began with that fantastic victory in the World Cup - "You Go Girls" - they did a great job representing the USA. Later in the day, my bride and I took in a double header watching the Isotopes play Las Vegas. It can't get any better than a day of baseball with ribbion fries, foot long hot dogs and cold beer. Life is especially good with 78 degree weather in July. |
July 5 - Painting for a Friend: This morning I shipped off a portrait I did of a friend in Canada. I hope Doris enjoys it. We were fortunate to dine each night with three great couples on our last cruise. Doris took ukelele lesson while on the cruise. She lives in Alberta, Canada. |
July 4th - Staying Home: We made the wise decision to stay home rather than fight the crowds. We spent the evening watching our Dodgers win again and taking turns holding Blossom to keep her calm as the booms went off in our neighborhood. |
July 3 - Reproductions of Watercolors: This afternoon, I started printing reproductions of my watercolors for the big ABQ Art Showcase in August. I plan to mat them in hopes to sell them. Each matted reproduction will fit into a standard 16 x 20 inch frame. My Epsom Artisan 1430 printer does a fantastic job. |
July 2 - Taos Poppies: I got a start on a new watercolor of poppies that I spotted while walking around Taos. The painting (on the right - in progress) has areas of art gum protecting the lightest sections. I intend to finish this watercolor with a dark adobe wall in the background. |
