May 30 - More Drawings For Taos: Here are more drawings for watercolors that I'll work on while in Taos starting on June 8th. |
May 29 - Barbers Inc: This morning I started some drawings for watercolors that I'll work on while in Taos - title "Barbers Inc" for a photo I took in Sydney. Australia. I'm going to try to make the reflections work in the windows. |
May 24 - Fancy Street Music: Today I made progress on my watercolor "Fancy Street Music" and I finished cutting and assembling 22 new 20 x 16 inch mats. My bride is sure that the only reason I have these large books is to weigh my mats down while the glue dries. |
May 20 - Turquoise Luncheon: The Turquoise Luncheon is when museum docents are rewarded for their years of service. Every third year of service Albuquerque Museum docents earn another piece of turquoise to add to their badge. Nancy, Fran and I started our docent training together. All three of us made it to fifteen years so we proudly wear 5 chunks of turquoise now. |
May 19 - Fancy Street Music: I started a new watercolor this morning "Fancy Street Music" so I'll have a demo painting to be working on at the NMWS Birthday Party. The New Mexico Watercolor Society is 50 years old now - So, we are celebrating. From 4:00 till 7:00 we will be holding a Birthday event at the Fine Arts Gallery at Expo New Mexico. My painting is of a young street musician on the plaza in Santa Fe. I'm using two methods to block out the lightest areas before I begin to throw paint. I'm using masking tape for some areas and Drawing Gum on others. |
May 18 - Saturday Painters: This morning, I finished my newest watercolor "Face Painting" in our Saturday Painters group. This was our last secession untill August so, we went out for lunch afterwards. This is my first painting from the photos I took in San Diego. |
May 16 - Back To Painting: I finally got back to painting today. |
May 14 - Deadlines: Deadlines have a way of sneaking up on me - For NAEA in Minnesota next March I submitted my Tearing Mountains / Watercolor-Collage - Like I did in Chicago. For the New Mexico Fall conference in Taos, New Mexico I submitted my Kaleidocycle workshop like I did in Boston. |
May 13 - Docent Training: This morning, at the Albuquerque Museum, I conducted a sample childern's tour for other docents about our new exhibition from the Palace of the Governors. Here are two items that I decided to include - a printing press and a Penny-Farthing bicycle. I did two sample tours this morning and I'm to do two more next Monday. I really need to learn to say NO more often. |
May 12 - Balloons for Mothers Day: What a better treat, than to take your Mom on a hot air balloon flight. |
May 11 - Southern Chapter Award: My watercolor "Magic Fingers" won an Honorable Mention Award in Las Cruces. |
May 10 - Cinco de Mayo: I got several new ideas for paintings while in San Diego. My first watercolor will be "Face Painting" in Old Town San Diego. |
May 9 - Painting Flowers: I received notice that three of my flower paintings will be in "The Flower as Still Life" at the New Mexico Art League June 4 - July 13, 2019. |
May 8 - Happy Birthday Frani: My beautiful bride had another birthday today - we went out for Chinese Food to celebrate. I cut the roses for her from our backyard. |
May 7 - Flying Home: It was a relaxing flight straight non-stop back to Albuquerque. The little guy in front of us was curious at first, then noisy till he fell asleep. |
May 6 - Exploring San Diego: On Monday, we took the Old Town Trolly all around San Diego ending up at Balboa Park. We took in the Art Museum and the Japanese Garden. Afterwards, we returned to Old Town for another great mexician dinner. |
May 5 - Cinco de Mayo in Old Town: I found lots of things to photograph for possible watercolors in Old Town San Diego. Plus, we had some of the best mexician food ever. |
May 4 - Flying to San Diego for WFWS: We missed the Opening Reception in Albuquerque because my bride and I flew to San Diego so I could get my signature status in WFWS. Our hotel was in SanDiego's Old Town - what a great place to be on Cinco de Mayo. |
May 3 - Salminen Workshop a Success: Everyone is producing a fantastic watercolor in this great workshop. |
May 2 - Signature Members Dinner: One room was set aside to display paintings by NMWS signature members. A dinner was held with John and Cathy Salminen on Thursday night. |
