January 30 - Albuquerque Mural:
There is a new mural in the Albuquerque City Hall -
Karl Hofmann builds large-scale installations that turn every-day
materials into abstract spectacles of shape, color and light. His site
specific structures transform spaces by bringing together built forms
that seemingly defy gravity. Utilizing boards, plywood, and various
types of hardware and lighting, Hoffman “builds” paintings. His three
dimensional works are in conversation with the processes of two
dimensional painting as he continually works to resolve issues that a
painter grapples with including light and shadow, perspective, and
balance.

January 28 - Docent Training:
Yesterday
- we had a fantastic talk at the museum by Roxanne Swentzell. Born in
Taos, New Mexico in 1962, Roxanne is from the well-known Santa Clara
Pueblo, Naranjo family of artists. “A shy girl who observed and
listened to people, but would not talk. Roxanne learned to communicate
her feelings to others by creating clay figures". She was for sure not
a bit shy when speaking to the docents today.

More
Good News - My watercolor "Boy With A Puppy" was accepted into the
GEORGIA WATERCOLOR SOCIETY 2020 NATIONAL EXHIBITION - Last June this
little guy was helping his mom clean rooms at the Sagebrush Inn - he
carried the small puppy everywhere they went - it made a great subject
- I just hope the poor puppy survived all that loving. Next time I'm in
Taos, If his mom is still working there I'll give her the painting.

Things
do get in the way of my painting - Docent duty at the museum,
organizing entries from other artists for MasterWorks, Watching my
Jayhawks beat K-State, choosing student watercolors for the APS Metro
Show, etc. etc. But. I did find a bit of time to do some painting on my
newest watercolor "Street Artist-NOLA". I found time to mask out some
of the lightest areas - then I started with a bit of color.

January 9 - Accepted and Rejected:
Today
I began to get notices from juried shows that I've entered. My entry
for the American Watercolor Society (New York) was rejected. I got the
usual Thank you for participatingI e-mail notice. They received more
than 1,100 entries of those fewer than 140 were accepted. But, more
impotantly, I also got an e-mail from "Water + Color" a brand new
national exhibition by the Pence Gallery in Davis, California. This is
their first year - they received 374 entries and only accepted 40 -
more importantly one was mine. I'll be shipping "Street Vocal" to
California soon.

January 4 - Shadows:
I
may be biting off too much here - but, I want to try more backlighting
and I love shadows. I remember this day in Barcelona when the light was
just right. There were crowds of people in front of Casa Milà, the
house designed by Antoni Gaudí. I have several photo references theat I
took that day. Perhaps I'll have a whole new series of paintings
started.

January 1 - Happy New Year:
I
plan to do a lot of serious painting this year. I have 22 watercolors
entered into seven exhibitions now - and, I plan to enter at least
three more juried exhibits. So, I need to create lots of quality
paintings. I'll either get rejected, get accepted or perhaps winn a few
awards. I need the cash to build up the balance in my Princess account
so we can take another cruise. Here's one I just finished and one I'm
currently working on.
