November 30 - Bike & Adobe:
I'm
starting a new watercolor this morning - it's from a photo I took at
the church in Ranchos de Taos. My friend Jason rode his bike over to
check out the progress on the annual remudding of the churc Like
myself, Jason comes to Taos every June to paint watercolors at the
Sagebrush Inn. We all hope the pandemic will ease up so we all can
return to Taos this June.

November 23 - Is It Finished ?
"Barcelona
Shadows" -
it's from photos I tookon the last cruise we took to Europe.
Perhaps, one day, when
this pandemic is finally over we will cruise again. I love painting
shadows and this one is all about the shadows. I started wet-n-wet,
with just a touch of color - some color plus some salt. Lot's of work
since then - after my friends critique it there will most likely be
some corrections. I'm open to suggestions.

November 22 - Sunday Morning:
My work space this Sunday morning - shows the screen on my i-Mac - of
course when it totally wakes up the screen will be cluttered with all
the stuff on my desktop. Real sticky notes to remind me of a few things
- so I don't forget everything. I also use the monitor to help me think
about what to do next on my watercolors. What's that they say about a
messy desk ........ Oh Yes - that's a photo I took of our mountain from
our backyard.

November 15 - USA is Back:
SpaceX
launched four astronauts to the International Space Station on Sunday
in a spectacular evening liftoff that came days after the company’s
Dragon capsule became the first privately owned and operated spacecraft
to be certified by NASA for human spaceflight. SpaceX earned that
designation and the right to undertake what NASA hopes will be regular
missions to the space station and back after it completed a test flight
of two astronauts earlier this year. That May launch was the first of
NASA astronauts from U.S. soil since the space shuttle was retired in
2011, forcing the United States to rely on Russia for flights to orbit
for nearly a decade.
With Sunday's launch, NASA took another step toward a new era in human
spaceflight in which private companies partner with the government to
build and design spacecraft and rockets. And it marked a coming-of-age
moment for SpaceX, the California company founded by Elon Musk that was
once viewed as a maverick start-up but is now one of the space
industry's stalwarts and one of NASA's most significant partners.

November 12 - Six String Banjo:
I finished this old painting in time for tomorrow's ZOOM
Critique with my Friday Painter's Friends. At least this is proof that
my "pebeo drawing gum" (liquid mask) will come off even after sitting
on a painting for several weeks. I'm satisfied with the way it turned
out - but, I wonder if it would work better if I added a very dark
background. What do you think ? I love painting street musicians - but
this guy is too normal. I prefer streen musicians with more character -
perhaps a grunge look and dreadlocks.I finished this old painting in time for tomorrow's ZOOM

November 10 - Some Progress:
I
made some progress on my "Wired Barn" - perhaps it needs a better
title. What attracted me to it were the strong colors. It is definitly
not delapated like "Bud's Barn" - but it caught my eye. We spotted it
as we drove up the enchanted Circle toward Angel Fire.

November 9 - NAEA Going VIRTUAL:
The 2021 NAEA National Convention will be VIRTUAL. The NAEA Board of
Directors, the 2021 NAEA National Convention will be held entirely
virtually, March 4-7, 2021. While the delivery format of the event is
changing, we are projecting that this virtual convening will break
records, since there will be no travel expenses for participants and we
plan to still offer hundreds of sessions, workshops, discussions,
keynote presentations, and more!
I made a proposal to do a workshop in Chicago. Now that everything will
be virtural - I'm trying to adapt my presentation to video presentation.

November 2 - New Watercolor:
I broke down and bought some new watercolor paper. Now I won't need to
paint on the backs of old paintings. My new subject is a deserted cabin
up near Angel Fire in Northern New Mexico. I've photographed it before
- but on this trip the light was just right. This one is on a full
sheet of Arches 300 lb Rough. It will be 21 x 28 inches. I should be
able to get it finished in time for our ZOOM critique this Friday.

November 1 - Old Memory:
I
created "Babe in Toyland" in 1962, my last year, in High School. It now
hangs in our house where the sun doesn't hit it. I don't remember the
girl's name. Our art teacher took us on a field trip to the Plaza at
Christmas. I worked from a photo I took on that outing. It's a print I
made from a sheet of glass from Miss Hughes desk. I don't remember if I
ask her for permission. I put my drawing under the glass and used a
tooth pick to draw with black watercolor on the glass. Then I placed a
sheet of damp newsprint over the glass to create the monoprint. My
mother had it framed - I don't dare open it for fear it might fall
apart. It was considered for a Hallmark award at Scholastics - but Miss
Hughes told the judges it was printmaking. Only drawings and paintings
were accepted for that award. It's a wonderful memory of my years at
Wyandotte.
