September 29 - Balloon Museum Exhibition: My balloon paintings will be in the International Balloon Museum exhibition - on-line https://www.balloonexhibition.com starting October 2nd - I deliver the framed paintings on October 18th to be displayed in the museum from October 23rd, 2020 until January 31st, 2021. |
September 23 - Eating Too Well: This Pandemic is going to kill us - but at least I'll pass away with a full stomach. Although the freezer now needs to be restocked. We used our last of our home made Egg Rolls and my special Red Sauce with chunks of pork. We need to put on our masks and go shopping. |
September 20 - Exhibitions: This year has been good - I have watercolors now in San Diego and in Kentucky (Both Shows are Virtural) - In October I will have two in the New Mexico Exhibition (Again Virtual). Then next month I'll have a painting in Montana (An Actual Show) then in November I send one off to Popular Bluff, Missouri for the "Watercolor Now" Exhibition - (Another Actual Show). I've entered two in the exhibition at the Balloon Museum - if they are accepted it will be an actual exhibit. So far - no awards or money - but my paintings are being accepted. I've sent entries to other shows - in Kansas and in California - my fingers are crossed for those. |

September 19 - Life On ZOOM: ZOOM
seams to be the way of many of our lives now days. We do meetings,
training, workshops, virtual exhibitions and of course critiques of
each other paintings. Every Friday & Saturday my artist friends
talk to each other using ZOOM. If you have not tried it - then jump in
- it's an easy and SAFE way to stay in contact with others in this
pandemic world. My newest watercolor on the left is just in it's
beginning. Jinkles on the right is a comment on the fires in California.

September 18 - Life Goes On: Here's proof that life can go on even under the Pandemic of Covit-19 our usual Friday Painters have not met in person for over 5 months - but we meet every Friday morning to discuss each others paintings. |
September 17 - FireBird Is Installed: This morning, after I shipped my watercolor of to Montana, I drove over to Fire Station # 9. A new Phoenix rose this morning in Albuquerque next to Fire Station # 9. It's part of the 1 % for art program. Phoenix - Ancient Greek: is a mythological bird that cyclically regenerates or is otherwise born again. Associated with fire and the sun, a phoenix obtains new life by arising from the ashes of its predecessor. Some legends say it dies in a show of flames and combustion, others that it simply dies and decomposes before being born again. |
September 16 - Fire Station #9: This afternoon we had another City Arts Board meeting (via ZOOM of course). I found out that the Firebird sculpture is being installed tomorrow at Fire Station #9. I hope to go by there and see part of the installation. |
September 15 - Fresco: Yesterday, I got an opportunity to visit with a master. Frederico Vigil is currently working on his Fresco in our cities Convention Center. This renowned fresco artist began this 4-year fresco project with the City of Albuquerque Public Art Program to carry on the legacy of fresco through apprenticeships. He envisions this unique fresco to tell the history of winemaking and agriculture in New Mexico. The apprenticeship program has already caught the attention of emerging artists all over the country. These apprentices are eager to learn the process from a master of Buon Fresco. |
September 13 - New Santa Fe Music: I'm going to try another version of "Santa Fe Music" this time in a vertical format rather than square - practice make perfect. |
I started my newest
watercolor by throwing some paint - I like to do a wet-n-wet
underpainting so the colors will show through later
September 12 - Balloon Museum Entries: I've decided to enter these two watercolors in the "International Balloom Museum" Exhibition. It's a local show - the Balloon Museum is in my neighborhood - so, if they are accepted I can drive them over. |
September 11 - Remembering: I very intentionally turned off the news today. I did not want to watch the replay of planes flying into buildings. Plus I did not want to hear Trump reading words that were not from his heart - as if he really had one. Because back when the disaster happened, I was teaching in Kansas City, our middle school put it on the TV in our classrooms. The next day I had my students develop a display of words that expressed things that were important in their lives. Our theme was "it is better to light one little candle than to curse the darkness". We put the work up in the display cases in the hallways. |
September 10 - Finished Painting: My newest watercolor - based on our recent day trip to Santa Fe - This guy was playing music in the square. He was in the shade - but, the reflections in the store window behind him provided lots of possibilities. The size is 21.5 inches square - it's on 300 lb Arches Rough. I think it's finished - but I want to hear any suggestions from my friends in our Friday & Saturday ZOOM Critiques. |
September 9 - Cooler Weather: It was a delightful 49 degrees when I awoke this morning. We turned the AC off last night and hope to leave it off all week. This is fantastic sleeping weather. We did have to fight the wind yesterday picking up my paintings from UNM and then when shopping later. ... |
September 8 - My Watercolors: These are my two watercolors that were selected by our juror Mike Bailey for the Fall NMWS Exhibition. Due to Covid-19 this will be an online show. Awards will be announced October 3rd during the NMWS monthly zoom meeting and will also be posted online on NMWS Website after the meeting. Framing is not necessary as this is a virtual online show. All sold paintings must be matted with backing and placed in a clear sleeve when shipped and/or delivered to buyer. Paintings will be available for sale on-line after the Oct 3rd meeting. My lower prices reflect the lack of frames. |
September 7 - AWAY: I just finished watching Season 1 of AWAY on Netflix - Wonderful story about the inner actions of five people on the first trip to Mars and the families they left behind on earth. It was extremely well done - I hope there is a season two. It's not the usual science fiction - it's a heart warming story about people. |
September 6 - BOOKWORM: Now that I've got BOOKWORM backon both of my computers - I'm wasting hours playing it - my new score ison my main computer is 3 million points higher than my old best score was before I lost the game a few years back. |
September 5 - ZOOM and Blossom: While I was on a ZOOM session with my watercolor friends - My bride was giving Blossom a much needed bath. She is resting now all worn out from her bath. |
September 4 - Progress: I made real progress on my newest watercolor "Street Music Santa Fe" I removed the mask - But, I'll wait a while to finish it. The Dodgers play the Rockies tonight and I want to save my energy. |
September 3 - Virtual Reception on ZOOM: The world of COVID-19 is making everything different - I currently have two paintings in an New Mexico Art Teachers Exhibition in the Masley Gallery at UNM. The exhibit is on line at: Yesterday we had a Virtual Reception for all the artists in the exhibit. It was a delightful and interesting experience. Each artist had an opportunity to explain our work and answer question. |
September 2 - A New Watercolor: I'm starting a new watercolor - based on our day trip Sunday to Santa Fe - This guy was playing music in the square. He was in the shade - but, the reflections in the store window behind him will provide lots of possibilities. The size will be 21.5 inches square - it's on 300 lb Arches Rough. The larger format will make it easier to paint. ...

September 1 - 57 Years Yesterday: 57 years together and we are still in love with each other. The first photo is from our our first cruise in 2013. The photo was taken in Golden Gate park in San Francisco. The second photo was taken a few years ago at a dinner theater in Manitou Springs, Colorado. |
Road Trip Celebration: We took a day trip up to Santa Fe today, to celebrate our 57th Anniversary - a day early because the store Double Take would be closed on Monday. We took the long way home through the Jemez Mountains. Of course we wore our masks - as the sign in Santa Fe says - "it's The Law". On our drive through the mountains - we checked out Valles Caldera. |
