December 23 - Finished Watercolor: I finished my last watercolor for this year. Here it is step by step plus the finished matted painting. I want to wish everyone a wonderful holiday season. Please stay safe and stay close to the ones you love. |

December 22 - Happy Birthday Basketball: Happy Birthday Basketball - Today, I'm watching our Jayhawks play Harvard in Lawrence. Dr. James Naismith 1898-1907 Naismith joined the KU faculty in 1898, coached the Jayhawk's first basketball team and later became the director of physical education. Naismith is the only Kansas coach to have a losing record. Naismith retired from active teaching in 1937 and died in 1939 at the age of 78. |

December 18 - Scholastic Art: Thank you Nikki Turman for inviting me to help juror this years Scholastic Art Awards. The Art facilities at Del Norte High are to die for - an art teachers dream. I got to help judge Middle School Art, Then High School Painting and Printmaking. |
December 17 - Progress: I finally got back to painting and made quite a bit of progress on my "Butterfly" |
December 16 - H & M: Last night, my bride and I watched the balance of the Netflix series on Harry and Megan. This was a well presented program about their lives and the stressful years they have gone through, We hope they can find a way to have a somewhat normal life where they can raise their children and continue their charity work. |
December 14 - Art Board: Today's, Art Board ZOOM meeting covered lots of topics. It's important to our city that good people serve on the Art Board. There are now 4 seats open - Districts 1, 3, 5 & 6. Please consider contacting your city councilor to fill a position. Art in Albuquerque needs you to step up. |
December 13 - Camera Obscura: There is a room in the new exhibition set up as a "camera obscure" showing the scene outside the Albuquerque Museum. It takes your eyes a few minutes to adjust so you can see the image. But my eye phone captures it quickly. New Mexico Landscapes On view at Albuquerque Museum September 3, 2022–March 19, 2023. "New Mexico Landscapes" is an exhibition of works that reflect a sense of place that is sometimes beautiful and sometimes a site of violent histories. These works on paper from the Museum's permanent collection encapsulate a variety of artistic approaches to depicting the land, including realistic representations, abstract compositions, imaginative interpretations, and an acknowledgment of history shaped by layers of colonization. |

This Morning - Splashdown: What a great time to be alive - watching progress in the making. I really enjoyed watching the new "unmanned capsual" return from it's 25 day journey to the moon and back. |
December 11 - KU Watch Party: Yesterday, KU Alumni gathered here in Albuquerque to watch our Jayhawks beat Missouri. Our No. 6-ranked Kansas Jayhawks appeared to follow their head coach's request to “embrace the atmosphere” and “love” playing in hostile Mizzou Arena in claiming a 95-67 victory over the previously undefeated MU Tigers in the latest edition of Border War. In front of a sold out crowd in Columbia, Jalen Wilson scored 24 points on 7-of-16 shooting; Kevin McCullar scored 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting. Gradey Dick aded 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists as coach Bill Self’s No. 6-ranked Jayhawks (9-1) handed the unranked Tigers (9-1) their first loss in front of fans hoping to see MU even the six-year, six-game resumption of the Border War at a game apiece. |
December 10 - Harry and Megan: Last night, my bride & I watched the first three episodes of "Harry and Megan". It's was refreshing to see this beautiful, intelligent couple doing what is best for themselves and especially their children. The show was well put together showing both of their backgrounds plus a history lesson as well. We can't understand why anyone would complain about the way their story is being presented. |
December 5 - Western Fed 2023: I just entered my single entry into WFWS 2023 - I hope to be in Texas when the exhibit opens next May - if I'm accepted or not. |
December 4 - Schrordinger's Cat: Many, many times I've called a company to fix something and have totally felt like I've reached the "Schrordinger's Cat" account. |
December 3 - Holiday Party: That's my Bride & I at the NMWS Holiday Party - I came home with a beautiful watercolor by Greg Sorber - But most important, they loved the ham my bride made and all of her chocolate cake disappeared. |
December 2 - Scholastic Art Awards: I've always believed in the power of the "Scholastic Art Awards" program. I first entered when I was in Junior High - that was 1957. Later, I finally won my gold key as a senior in High School, that was 1962. with a print created titled "Babe in Toyland". When I became an art teacher my students participated in the "Scholastic Art Awards" and did extreamly well. Now, as an old retired teacher, I get to be a juror in the New Mexico "Scholastic Art Awards" program later this month. It will be an honor to select some of the student awards this year. I hope the new award winners will cherish the memories of being part of the "Scholastic Art Awards" program as much as I have. I sill have the print I created in High School and the gold key award I won back then. I created "Babe in Toyland" in 1962, my last year, in High School. It now hangs in our house where the sun doesn't hit it. I don't remember the girl's name. Our art teacher took us on a field trip to the Plaza at Christmas. I worked from a photo I took on that outing. It's a print I made from a sheet of glass from Miss Hughes desk. I don't remember if I ask her for permission. I put my drawing under the glass and used a tooth pick to draw with black watercolor on the glass. Then I placed a sheet of damp newsprint over the glass to create the monoprint. My mother had it framed - I don't dare open it for fear it might fall apart. It was considered for a Hallmark award at Scholastics - but Miss Hughes told the judges it was printmaking. Only drawings and paintings were accepted for that award. It's a wonderful memory of my years at Wyandotte. |

December 1 - 4th Graders Tour Museum: Last Tuesday, at the start of our tour for 4th graders - Jody told a story about the discovery of the Native American flute. His story telling skills and his flute playing had our students full attention - Thank You Jody, you are a fantastic addition to our museum. |
