February 26 - "Ochai Agbaji" Finished Now: After I posted the finished painting - I saw a lot more to do on this painting - Now it's finished. |
February 25 - Progress: Here's the progress I made this morning on my watercolor of "Ochai Agbaji". |
February 24 - Jayhawk Basketball: I'm starting on a portrait of "Ochai Abaji" to celebrate Jayhawk Basketball - Rock Chalk Jayhawk Go KUUUUUU. |
February 23 "Rio Grande": I finished my new watercolor "Rio Grande" yesterday - lots of pebeo drawing gum used to protect the whites, some salt plus a bit of atomizer spray in the corners. It's on Arches 300 lb Rough - when matted it will fit a 28 x 22 inch frame. |
February 22 - Printmaking: Today I viewed a fantastic exhibition of printmaking at the Albuquerque (where I'm a docent). This piece "Profile in Blue, 1989" is by Ron Adams. It's a color lithograph which was printed by Michael Costello. The exhibition points out the careful collaboration between an artist and their printer. This is a must see exhibition. Among the prints was one by Jim Dine (he's not one of my favorite artists) - but, this one caught my eye. It shows artist's tools on display. A very proper subject - many well worn brushes - I love it. |
February 21- President's Day: We celebrated Presidents Day watching "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" on Hulu - Honest Abe: he was the 16th president, the Great Emancipator ... and a righteous slayer of the undead spurred to action by his mother's vampiric murder. History and legend are both turned upside-down as Lincoln tracks the creatures of the night. I wonder if the text book writers in Texas have seen this movie ? If we are going to rewrite history - let's at least have some fun at the same time. "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" the movie has it all - Mary Todd Lincoln, Jefferson Davis, Stephen Douglas (the debate) even Harriet Tubman and the underground railroad. |

February 20 - Teacher Pay Increase: The House of Representatives voted unanimously late Monday night to approve Senate Bill 1, which would increase the minimum pay at each level of the state’s three-tiered teacher licensing system by $10,000. The measure is one strategy aimed at addressing a crisis-level teacher shortage across New Mexico. SB 1 now heads to Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, who put her support behind the legislation early on. She called it the largest educator pay raise in recent years and announced after the House vote she planned to sign the bill into law. That means starting teachers will see their pay rise to $50,000 from $40,000, while middle-tier teachers will see a jump in the base pay to $60,000 from $50,000. Teachers at the highest tier will be paid at least $70,000, a boost from $60,000 now. |

Everything is virtual these days - Grandma and Poppie watched our grand daughter's recital on line today - Way to go girl
February 19 - New Whitewater Painting: Yesterday and today, I started on a new watercolor of white water rafting on the Rio Grande. I pealed off the art gum to expose the whites this morning. |
February 17 - Let It Snow: We had snow in our yard when I got up this morning. Of course, it melted by noon - but it was beautiful up on our mountain where it belongs. |
February 12 - "Securing Phoenix": This is the painting I got into MasterWorks with - "Securing Phoenix" It's the art installation at Fire Station # 9 - It was created out of car hoods. |
February 14 - Valentines Day: I actually bought my bride something for Valentine's Day. It was a pot decorated with little shells. My bride found some flowers that works well in it. |
February 10 - Rock Chalk Jayhawk: I watch every Jayhawk Basketball game that I can. But, Best of all is getting together with other KU Alumni at the bar to cheer on our team. This coming Saturday we gather again. Good friends, good food a few drinks mix well together at a KU Alumni Watch Party. |
February 7 - "Faux Poppies": Here's what I texture my watercolor paper for - "Faux Poppies" will be my next painting. |
February 6 - Yesterdays Game: LAWRENCE, Kan. -- — Christian Braun and Ochai Agbaji each scored 18 points and No. 10 Kansas bolted to a big lead and routed No. 8 Baylor 83-59 Saturday to hold the top spot in the Big 12 Conference race. The Jayhawks (19-3, 8-1) led by as many as 34 points late in the game. This was the first time Kansas had hosted a defending national champion since Dec. 15, 2018, when it beat Villanova 74-71 at Allen Fieldhouse. |
February 5 - NMWS Demo: I big thank you to Wendy Wilkerson for her great demo today for the New Mexico Watercolor Society. Her use of textured rice paper and gouache showed our members a unique approach to painting. As an old teacher, I was personally impressed that she started on her artistic journey due to an award she won in Scholastic Arts early in life. |
February 4 - Finished: This is my newest watercolor "Whitewater". I'm painting on 300 lb Arches Rough that I coated with a textured layer of gesso juice - Matted it will fit into a 28 x 22 inch frame. I'll try another version tomorrow - perhaps without the ink lines. |
February 3 - Snow Outside: With a beautiful layer of white stuff in the yard - these are the days to stay inside and enjoy a bit of painting. Perhaps it's a good day to make some french toast for breakfast. The morning sun was hitting some of our faux poppies so I took a few photos - perhaps they will become subjects for a new watercolor. |
February 2 - Some Progress: I made a bit of progress on my "Whitewater" painting today. |
February 1 - My Newest Watercolor: Last Friday and Saturday, I made good progress on my newest watercolor "Whitewater". I'm painting on 300 lb Arches Rough that I coated with a textured layer of gesso juice. |
