March 27 - New Watercolors: I made some progress on two new watercolors this weekend - but, now I'm headed to the bar to watch Basketball will other KU Alumni. Rock Chalk Jayhawk Go KUUUUUUUU. |
March 23 - Spring Snow: Beautiful to wake up to - But, it will be gone soon. |
March 21 - Sweet Sixteen: Top-seeded Kansas is up against Providence this Friday at 5:30 Mountain Time - the game is on TBS. Of course, I'll miss the opening reception of MasterWorks to watch the game. Assuming my Jayhawks pevail - I expect our next opponet will be Iowa State on Sunday. Rock Chalk Jayhawk - Go KUUUUUUUU |
March 20 - Remy Martin: Remy Martin hadn't led Kansas in scoring all season coming into the NCAA Tournament. The fifth-year senior transfer from Arizona State. Martin scored 20 points, Ochai Agbaji put the Jayhawks ahead for good with his first basket early in the second half, and Kansas held off Creighton 79-72 on Saturday to advance to the Sweet 16. Now Kansas will face Providence, in the Midwest Region semifinals Friday in Chicago. The game time has not been announced - I just hope it does not conflict with the opening reception of MasterWorks - I won't miss the game for anything. |
March 19 - International District - Library: The city Art Board got a tour today of the new library under construction in the International District - Opening is planned for June. |
March 18 - Faux Poppies: I surprised myself - my "Faux Poppies" turned out OK. This watercolor is on 300 lb Arches Rough - it will fit a 22 x 28 inch frame. I coated the surface with gesso juice using the side of a credit card for texture. A variety of techniques were employed - I used pebeo drawing gum as a mask - some salt and at the end a touch of white. |
March 17 - Arts Board: Yesterday, the city art board met on another monthly ZOOM meeting. Perhaps, in April we will be able to meet in person. |
March 16 - Worth Watching: We finally found something on Hulu that we really like - and there are lots and lots of episodes to keep us entertained. Murdoch Mysteries or The Artful Detective (USA) is a Canadian detective drama television series set in Toronto in the 1890s and, starting in season six, in the 1900s, based on Maureen Jennings’ popular Detective Murdoch series of novels that premiered January 2008 in Canada. One of Canada's most successful and longest-running dramas, Murdoch Mysteries (14 seasons; 215 one-hour episodes) has become a staple for CBC and broadcasters around the world with its winning formula that brings together compelling mysteries, unique slices of turn-of-the-century history, ingenious inventions and personal moments for each of the four main characters. |
March 15 - Student Art: The Metro Selection Committee of the ABQ Art Board held a ZOOM meeting today to select four pieces of student art for purchase by the city. Congratulations to the four artists who had their work selected to go into the cities permenant collection. |
March 14 - My Bride's Art: This is how my talented bride uses some of her spare time on a cruise - she takes extra needles in case she looses some. |
March 12 - Portrait of Ochai Agbaji: I'm so glad that I'm going to be able to ship the watercolor portrait I did of Ochai Agbaji to his parents in Kansas City. Thanks go to a kind person at the Alumni Association for putting me in contact with his parent. Our Jayhawks are playing at top form at just the right time. |
March 7 - Printer's Proof: Today, docents at the Albuquerque had "in-person" training on the new "Printer's Proof" exhibition. It's a fantastic exhibit: Artist and Printer Collaborations is on view at Albuquerque Museum February 19 – May 15, 2022. This exhibition focuses on the collaborative process of printmaking and celebrates several printers based (or formerly based) in New Mexico as well as the artists they have worked with. Great news - we were told that soon we will have actual tours of groups of students. |
March 6 - Outlander Is Back: Outlander is Back - Outlander fans—the Droughtlander is finally over. The bad news? season 6 is only eight episodes long, which is a major change from previous seasons which have run anywhere from thirteen to sixteen episodes apiece. But, more good news—Starz has already renewed the show for a seventh run, and next season will be a hefty sixteen episodes. At 7:00 tonight the long wait is over. |
March 5 - Watercolor Demo: Sabrina Turner gave a great demo this morning for the members of the New Mexico Watercolor Society this morning. Afterwards, I joined my fellow Jayhawks at the bar to cheer on our team. |
March 3 - Cutting Mats: Yesterday, I cut a mat for my watercolor portrait of "Ochai Agbaji" and put it in a plastic sleeve for protection - it will fit into a 20 x 28 inch frame. I also framed "Securing Phoenix" for the MasterWorkof New Mexico exhibition. |
March 2 - Thank You Governor: Thank you Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, for putting your support behind the largest educator pay raise in recent years. |
March 1 - "Ochai Agbaji" Finished Now: After I posted the finished painting - I saw a lot more to do on this painting - Now it's finished. |
