May 30 - Butterfly Installed: This morning we finished installing our butterfly - Thank you Buddy & Shari |
May 28 - Another Entry: I just entered my watercolor "Artist at Work" into the NAEA online exhibition. We spotted this sculpture under construction in Santa Fe and spoke to the artist Tigre Mashaal-Lively. His sculpture fascinated me to paint him constructing his creation. My process was painting with watercolor over a textured surface of gesso-juice. One of the last things I did was to attach some winkled pieces of white tissue paper - then painting over the wrinkled paper. This painting is varnished to be displayed without glass mounted on a hard surface. Later, I found out, sadly, that someone had set fire to his sculpture. |
May 26 - Our Butterfly: We dug the hole yesterday for the framework to support our new Butterfly - when mounted, it's wings should move with the wind |
May 25 - Another Artist: We picked up my brides latest cross stitch - We had it stretched so we can frame it. It took her two years of the pandemic to finish. It measures 43 x 28 inches. |
May 23 - Eighteen Years: This afternoon I attended the "Turquoise Luncheon" at the Albuquerque Museum. The purpose is to recognize our new docents and to recognize the years of service for others. Fran Berger and I started training as docents at the same time. Today we both got our sixth turquoise for our docent badges. One for every three years. It's hard to believe it's been 18 years. I was also able to give Fran a portrait I did of her grand daughter. The pandemic seems to have delayed everything. |
May 21 - I-Phone Photos: I photographed this butterfly yesterday, on my i-phone, as I was leaving the watercolor exhibit at EXPO NM. |
May 19 - Re-Do Backyard: With the hot tub gone - we relocated our furniture - we sat out there last night and enjoyed the evening. |
May 18 - Welcome New Members: The New Mexico Watercolor Society welcomed our newest members at a luncheon today inside the Fine Arts Gallery at Expo New Mexico. It was a perfect setting surround by the Western Fed Exhibition. |
May 17 - Docent Tour: We had 8th graders at the Albuquerque museum this morning - here they are locating their shool and homes on the map of Albuquerque on the floor of our "Only In Albuquerque" exhibit area. |
May 16 - Flowers: Yesterday I put new flowers in my old poppy bed - this morning I ran the drip lines to keep the flowers happy - I'm really getting too old to do this stuff. Next, my bride put new red mulch around the flowers. |
May 14 - Worth Reading: The painter Winfred Rembert, who died in 2021, posthumously won in the biography category for his memoir Chasing Me to My Grave: An Artist's Memoir of the Jim Crow South, which was co-authored with Erin I. Kelly. Chasing Me to My Grave, which was published last year, details Rembert's experiences with racism and the U.S. prison system, and explores how he came to his signature technique of painting and carving leather, a medium that he grew to love while he was incarcerated. |
May 13 - Lost & Found: It was not lost, it seems that I had never unpacked this painting when it came back from Georgia. I'm going to give it to his mother if she still works at the Sagebrush Inn or if someone knows how to find her. |
May 9 - Signature Exhibition: These are the two watercolors I'm considering entering into the Signature Exhibition in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Both paintings will be matted and framed without plexiglass. The are varnished to protect them. They are also painted over a layer of textured gesso juice that I learned about in Kathleen Conover's online workshop. |
May 8 - Mother's Day: Mother's Day Dinner - BBQ Spareribs, baked potato with green clili dip, three veggies, white wine and of course Frani's cheesecake topped with cherries. Of course today was my brides birthday as well. |
May 7 - WFWS Awards: Tonight the Western Fed Awards were presented at the Albuquerque Museum. Its was a great evening - "till the lights went out". Our juror, Iain Steward, did a great job of explaining his thinking as to why he selected each painting. |
May 5 - Chuck Wagon Dinner: Thank You, Tina for inviting us all out to your home in Corrales. We got an opportunity to see old friends and meet new friends. The watercolor world is full of wonderful people. |
May 4 - Watercolor Workshop: I took a few photos in the Iain Stewart watercolor workshop today. WFWS Delegates arrive tomorrow - then we go to Tina's for dinner. The exhibition opens this Friday. The awards will be presented on Saturday at the Albuquerque Museum. Yesterday, Iain Steward did a demo for artists at the NMWS May meeting. |
May 3 - Student Museum Experience: Today, our docent team had our first student tour in over two years. We had 10th graders from the NEX+GEN ACADEMY HIGH SCHOOL here in Albuquerque. I answered studens questions about printmaking processes. These photos are in our new exhibit "The Printers Proof". We are finally rejoining the world. |
May 2 - We Eat Too Good: How will we ever loose any weight when we eat so damn good - Chile Rellenos one night and French Toast the next morning. |
May 1 - Welcome to Spring: We said goodbye to our hot tub this morning. |
