November 27 - Wednesday: We watched all eight episodes of "Wednesday" on Netflix and loved it. "Wednesday" (Jenna Ortega) has finally done it. After being expelled one too many times from high school after high school (her most recent offense being a pool full of piranhas with the swim team inside it), she's finally being moved somewhere more“appropriate”. Gomez and Morticia (Luis Guzmán and Catherine Zeta-Jones) decide to send her to their own boarding school, Nevermore Academy. |

November 26 - Falcon 9: The Falcon 9 rocket headed downrange northeast from Kennedy, powered by nine Merlin engines generating 1.7 million pounds of thrust. The rocket shut down its first stage booster about two-and-a-half minutes into the mission, allowing the booster to descend to landing on a drone ship about 186 miles (300 kilometers) downrange in the Atlantic Ocean about seven-and-a-half minutes after liftoff. The booster, tail number B1076, completed its first flight to space on the CRS-26 mission. The Dragon capsule, also brand new, deployed from the Falcon 9's upper stage about 12 minutes after liftoff to begin the journey to the International Space Station. |

November 20 - New Watercolor: This morning, I made progress on my newest watercolor - "Butterfly" |

November 17 - Critique: This morning, I finished my newest watercolor - "Critique" |

November 16 - Jayhawk Basketball: Basketball is back, I got to watch the season opener last night as No. 6 Kansas outlasted No. 7 Duke 69-64 during the Champions Classic in Indianapolis. The Jayhawks looked like a national contender once again. Kansas freshman Gradey Dick came alive in crunch time for three clutch buckets in the final two and a half minutes, two of which gave the Jayhawks the lead. His diving, twisting lay-up with 1:04 remaining made it a 65-62 lead for the Jayhawks, who rallied from a six-point deficit late in the second half. Dick had been scoreless for the half until his late finishing flurry but finished with 14 points for the game. For most of the second half, the Jayhawks essentially force-fed junior wing Jalen Wilson, who is the leading returning scorer after the losses of stars such as Ochai Agbaji and Christian Braun to the NBA Draft. Wilson finished with a game-high 25 points and helped the Jayhawks weather a storm in the second half. |

November 14 - Winter Soon: Winter must not be far away - This morning, there was snow on our mountain (where it belongs) |
||
November 11 - New Watercolor: This morning, I made progress on my new watercolor " titled Critique". |

November 8 - Albuquerque History: Sunday's Abq Journal had a great article on (WW II War Correspondent) Ernie Pyle. We have one of his typewriters at the Albuquerque Museum. After traveling the world - Pyle and his wife decided to settle in Albuquerque - Why Albuquerque ? It was this question that prompted him to write a 1942 piece in New Mexico Magazine. He wrote paragraphs explaining all the reasons Albuquerque was their chosen home.“We have seen sunrises so violently beautiful they were almost frightening, and I'm only sorry I can't capture the sunsets and the thunderstorms and the first snows on the Sandías, and take them East and flaunt them in people's faces … We like it because Albuquerque is still small enough that you always see somebody you know when you go downtown. We like it because the whole tempo of life is slower than in the big cities. We like it because in Albuquerque a pedestrian waits for the traffic light even though there may not be a car in sight.” That was 1942 - if Pyle was here today - he could post those sunsets and snow on the Sandia on computers everywhere. |

November 6 - Varnished Watercolors: Yesterday I picked up two of my varnished watercolors from the exhibition at UNM. The exhibit is part of the New Mexico Art Teachers Fall Conference. My watercolors were painted over a textured layer of Gesso Juice and mounted on boards. Since they are varnished they don't have matts or plexiglass. |
||
November 5 - Gayle's Demo: Last night before her demo, Gayle Weisfield stayed at our house. It was a delightful evening visiting with a new friend that I'd met last June in Taos. Her demo Saturday morning was fantastic. I'm sure many of our members are going to try her wet in wet technique now. |
||
November 4 - Tearing Mountains: I finally got to do my "Tearing Mountains" watercolor workshop. I was to do this at a national workshop bu covid got in the way. Everything was packed in a suitcase for over 2 years. This morning, I had the classroom set up at UNM for 20 people - but it was overflowing. I'm sure at least 30 showed up. It was good to see other teachers in person after being cooped up so long. It looked like all the New Mexico art teachers enjoyed the lesson. |

November 1 - Fall Is A Beautiful Time: This morning our team of docents had a delightful group of 1st through 5th graders from Inez Elementary school. We had them do portraits at the end of their tour. |
