September 28 - Roses: Yesterday, I cut these three roses for my bride. |
September 27 - Rainbow: Another light rain today brought a beautiful rainbow over our house. |
September 26 - Two Entries: I just entered two of my varnished watercolors into an exhibition at UNM. The exhibit is part of the New Mexico Art Teachers Fall Conference. My watercolors were painted over a textured layer of Gesso Juice and mounted on boards. Since they are varnished they don't have matts or plexiglass. During the conference, I'm also doing my hands on watercolor workshop, "Tearing Mountains" at the conference for NM Art Teachers. |
September 24 - Finally Finished: I'm finally done with my "Old Sagging House" - but I may make a few corrections before I frame it. Here are the stages it went through along the way. What surprised me was that I did not use any "Gesso Juice" or "Salt" in creating it - also, I did not use my thin sharpie for any line work except to sign the painting. |
September 23 - More Progress: I made more progress on my "Old Sagging House" - I should be able to finish it tomorrow. |
September 22 - Another ZOOM Meeting: The Albuquerque Art Board met yesterday - We approved the newest ALMA tile project for the convention center. Also we agreed to move an often dammaged sculpture from Alamosa Park to the Westgate Community Center. The board also discussed restoring and adopting the Spire at Wyoming and Oakland. The current "CAFE Call for 2-D Art" and the progress on the increase to 1 & 1/2 % for art was also discussed. |
September 21 - Permanent Collection: This morning, I took part in a tour of the NM Watercolor Societies Permanent Collection hanging on the walls in REDW's beautiful building. We have 109 watercolors in our collection now. |
September 17 - More Progress: At Saturday Morning Painters, this morning, I made good progress on my newest watercolor "Old Sagging House". The last thing I did was to remove the art gum protectin the whites. I need to live with the painting a while before I decide what to do next. |
September 16 - Progress: This morning, I got a good start on my newest watercolor - "Old Sagging House". |
September 15 - New Subject: I finally did my drawing for my new watercolor. I photographed this old house the last time I drove up to Madrid. |
September 12 - Horreo: New piece at our museum - it's not a sculpture - but it is impressive looking. An hórreo is a typical granary from the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula (Asturias, Galicia, where it might be called a Galician granary, and Northern Portugal), built in wood or stone, raised from the ground (to keep rodents out) by pillars to prevent access by rodents. Ventilation is allowed by the slits in its walls. |
September 11 - Painting Sold: Nice surprise - I sold a painting in the exhibition at the Unitarian Church - "Indian Market Baby" was a personal favorite - I'm glad it has a new home. |
September 10 - Adding Fun To Painting: New Mexico Watercolor Society members were treated to a fun demo by Mary Jane Milz this morning. So sorry is you missed this months meeting. |
September 9 - Harwood: The second part of yesterdays Docent trip to Taos was to see the beautiful art on display at the Harwood. The Harwood Museum of Art is located in Taos, New Mexico. Founded in 1923 by the Harwood Foundation, it is the second oldest art museum in New Mexico. Its collections include a wide range of Hispanic works and visual arts from the Taos Society of Artists, Taos Moderns, and contemporary artists. |
September 8 - Docent trip to Taos: This is where the Taos Society of Artists began: Couse-Sharp Historic Site - This 2+ acre campus in the heart of Taos features the former homes and studios of E. I. Couse and J. H. Sharp, two of the American-born, European-trained artists who formed the TSA in 1915. |
September 7 - Portraits: The portraits of the Obama's that will hang in the White House are acceptable - but they don't compare to the watercolor portrait of President Obama that hangs in our living room. Listening to the speeches at the unveiling today brought back many fond memories of those happy times. Perhaps the public will wise up soon and bring us a caring government that works for better days again. |
September 3 - Shoes Finished: I finished my newest watercolor "Shoes on a Line" Here are the steps along the way - it's a fun painting - even my bride likes it. |
September 2 - Today's Roses: Roses for my bride on the first day of our 60th year together. |
September 1 - Wonderful Life Together: We are celebrating 59 Wonderful years together - Today we start working on year number sixty. |
