Arriving In Papeete: Our world cruise continues - now in the beautiful South Pacific where Paul Gauguin escaped to. We stay overnight in Papeete and then visit the island of Moorea. It's too bad that we won't be spending a week here. There is one market that we love to shop at in Papeete. |
Beautiful Moorea: There is never enough time in a beautiful place like this. My bride found time to shop (of course) and she found time to learn how to take photos with the new i-phone she bought for me. |
American Samoa: We were in Pago Pago on an earlier cruise. We remembered how hot and steamy it was then. This time they were overjoyed to see us because our ship was the first cruise ship to arrived since the pandemic. It was still hot but we enjoyed our visit. I bought a carved wooden mask to bring home. I even found what has become my favotite shirt - but, I refused to buy the skirt that came with it. |
Crossing The International Dateline: Some people make this out to be such a big deal. You loose a day going one way or you gain a day going the other way. By this time (30 or more days) we arn't sure what day it is anyway. I did love one thing - if you travel westward around the world - you move through 24 time zones - which means that you get an extra hour of sleep many, many nights. |
New Zealand Next: We love New Zealand and have been looking forward to visiting again. Our first port is "Bay of Islands" - never been there before. I could move here an be totally happy - lots of fishing available everywhere. I even picked up a hand made piece of metal wall art to bring home. My bride and I took an excursion to tour the glow worm cave in Kawiti. |
Auckland, New Zealand: On February 10th we explored Auckland ending up finally at the Sky Tower so we could get a better view of the city below. |
Day 37 - Tauranga, New Zealand: When were in Tauranga a few years back - we visited the site of filming od "Lord of the Rings". This trip we decided to discover real culture - so, we toured Maori School. The students put on a show for us. While there my bride found two young hunks to pose with. |
Unfortunately, Storms were approaching - so, the Captain decided to skip the next 3 ports scheduled in New Zealand. These were ports we had never seen and places we had plans for. Our schedule was changed and Melbourne, Australia was added as our next port. |
